Let me sing a sad slow song for you, it’s called ‘If you thought life was a struggle in college well after college the struggle only increases” blues. Okay so the title of the song is a little dramatic and maybe even a little to long but it definitely conveys my point. It baffles me how all of your life you go to school, with the hopes and dreams of becoming “whatever you want to be.” So you spend 13 years in school, starting anywhere from age 4 or 5 and going until your about 18-30 (some of us take longer to become seasoned and others are just well academically inclined). Some people stop after high school, whereas, some go on to college in order to get an AA, BA, BS, Masters or maybe even a doctorate, all the while thinking that if I place myself about $50,000 in the debt, this education or degree that I earn will definitely pay off eventually and then I wont have a care or worry in the world. At least this is what I was naive enough to think when I went to college, I kept thinking to myself “sure its fine to take out loans because once you graduate you will be making the big bucks!” Well I hate to piss in my own corn flakes but I was grossly mistaking not to equip myself with all the information. For starters, the economy at the time was not flourishing like they always say and practically every body is hiring but you either have to have 20+ years of experience or you have to realize that you are in competition with a lot of other Tom, Dick and Harry’s out there, so it’s pertinent to make sure that you are well equipped for whatever job you desire because your education alone is not going to cut it. It’s as if the search for a job is a never-ending roller coaster, sometimes there is hope that you are about to get off and everything is going to be fine but then the roller coaster just keeps going on and on and on like the Energizer bunny, leaving you in a simply dazed and stupefied state, you’ve had your bout of fun and, now you are ready for stability. Maybe I just have a completely distorted view of what my life would be like after I graduated college, but I am definitely reassured in knowing that the $50,000 hole that I dug for myself, will be a perfect dwelling if a giant world ending meteor decides to hit Earth.
